Outreach

We believe in inspiring and empowering the next generation of engineers. Our group mentors high school and undergraduate students interested in STEM fields both in and out of the lab. We create an inclusive and supportive lab environment that fosters curiosity, growth, and learning.

NYU Tandon Undergraduate Summer Research Program

Our lab has partnered with the NYU Tandon Undergraduate Summer Research Program to host undergraduate students for summer research internships. Undergraduate students are mentored by our graduate students and postdocs, and learn experimental techniques relevant to their research projects. Students are responsible for progressing their assigned research project and giving regular data updates. Undergraduate students are expected to participate in all aspects of the lab including group meetings. After the summer program, undergraduate students often stay on in the lab and continue working on their research project during the academic year. NYU ARISE Program for NYC High School Students

Our lab has partnered with the NYU ARISE program to host NYC High School Students for five-week summer research internships. Students are mentored by our graduate students and postdocs and learn experimental techniques relevant to their research projects. Students participate in all aspects of the lab, including group meetings. The internship culminates with the annual Pinkerton Research Group Lab Olympics. NYU Tandon Research Exellence Exhibit

Since 2024, our lab has participated in the NYU Tandon Research Excellence Exhibit where our graduate students showcase their research projects to the general public. The Exhibit is an annual event that illustrates the scope of engineering and the applied sciences -- and their potential for improving the world. Students celebrate their incredible academic contributions to the community and the ways in which they connect to Tandon's seven areas of research excellence. PS003 Charrette Elementary School Science Fair

Our lab participates in the annual NYC PS003 Charrette Elementary School Science Fair by hosting an interactive “Making New Medicines” booth. Elementary school students are introduced to materials for nanomedicine through simple, hands-on experiments, including making hydrogels and creating protective coatings to slow the dissolution of candy in soda. Lab members engage with students throughout the event, answering questions and encouraging curiosity about science and engineering. The event provides an opportunity to share our research with a broader audience, inspire the next generation of scientists and have fun!
